MRS. BLAIS

Mrs. Blais is the head teacher at Hebron Center Nursery School.  She teaches both the 3 year olds and the 4 year olds.  She also created the enrichment program that was such a hit this past summer and will be starting up again in October.

Mrs. Blais is all about being a teacher.  She loves learning and exploring the world around her and sharing  this knowledge.  Mrs. Blais has read lots of books, traveled the world and gone for her bachelors degree in an effort to share this with all of us.  The other teachers love working with her and they feel like they learn something from her every day.

Her energy and enthusiasm for her job is fantastic.  She balances this with being a Super Mom to her three sons, Jeff, Stephen and Kevin.  With two sons in college and one in high school her life is busy but she remembers the importance of  having quality family time.  Mrs. Blais always makes sure to keep good healthy habits and physical exercise a part of her daily life and this has followed her to school with our healthy snack lists and lots of physical play time.  Hebron Center Nursery School is very lucky to have such a gifted head teacher.  Whether we are exploring bees, the rain forest, making apple pies, or learning about how to keep our planet healthy,  Mrs. Blais will never cease to amaze us all with all the information she shares.

Mrs. Blais makes learning so much FUN!!!!!!
MRS. YORIO

Mrs. Yorio is currently the assistant teacher in the Monday/Wednesday/Friday 4 year old program and has been with Hebron Center Nursery School for as long as anyone can remember (over 20 years).  In fact, she taught Mrs. Blais' sons when they were at HCNS!

Mrs. Yorio is married with two children (all grown!) and their names are Becky and Nick.  She is the proud grandmother of little Hunter with another grandchild on the way in December.

Mrs. Yorio has an endless supply of energy and loves her little friends at school.  She likes making spaghetti from scratch, getting her hands messy and being silly.  Mrs. Yorio has lots of great ideas for projects too!  She likes to move around, sing and dance and is the best at teaching us how to make letter shapes using our bodies.  Circle time is Mrs. Yorio's favorite part of the day because she loves to "eye-spy" the color and shape of the month and to help her students read the letter story for the week.  She is always smiling, always helpful and always the most fun person to be around.

We love Mrs. Yorio and you will too!!

MS. GATZKE

Ms. Gatzke is the assistant teacher in the Tuesday and Thursday 3 year old program.  Ms. Gatzke graduated from UCONN--as she puts it--"100 years ago".  She also did some graduate work at Wesleyan in creative writing and has attended tons of early childhood workshops and classes.

She comes to Hebron Center Nursery school from a very long (21 years) and very respected career as the Director of The Marlborough Co-operative Nursery School.  During her time there as the head teacher she created the curricula which were based on an open-ended, creative approach to learning.

Some of Ms. Gatzke's techniques include using dress-up on special days to learn about different cultures such as Chinese New Year, France, Feliz Navidad and Dutch Day.  She is a huge proponent of the arts and so she loves to include talk about various artists and have children execute works in their styles--including Van Gogh, Pollock, Picasso and Michelangelo.

Ms. Gatzke retired from The Marlborough Co-operative in 2005 and began to give private art and creative writing classes in her home to children.  In 2007 a very wonderful and persuasive mother of one of Ms. Gatzke's former students called her to see if she would consider taking the 3 yr. old assistant job at HCNS.  She gladly accepted.  She has found a very nice balance in her retired life.  She really enjoys working with small children--so this position gives her her "kid fix" yet still allows her to pursue all of her other interests.

How lucky for all the kids at HCNS to have Ms. Gatzke!
